Consumer Unit Upgrade in Wimborne

The Brief

A property in Wimborne was still running on an old fuse board that was well past its best. It offered little modern protection, and the owner wanted to bring the installation up to current safety standards. The goal was a straightforward, tidy upgrade: replace the outdated board with a modern consumer unit that protects each circuit individually, and add surge protection to guard sensitive appliances and electronics.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Inspected the existing installation: Before starting we checked the condition of the wiring feeding the board to confirm it was sound and suitable for a new consumer unit.
• Removed the old fuse board: The outdated board was safely isolated and removed, ready for the new unit to be fitted in its place.
• Fitted a modern RCBO consumer unit: The new board gives every circuit its own individual RCBO protection, so a fault on one circuit no longer trips the whole house and shock protection is greatly improved.
• Added surge protection: A surge protection device was fitted to help guard sensitive appliances and electronics against voltage spikes on the supply.
• Labelled, tested and certified: Every circuit was clearly labelled, the installation was fully tested, and the work was certified so the owner has written proof it meets current standards.

The Result

A neat, modern consumer unit that brings the property's electrics up to current safety standards. With individual RCBO protection on every circuit and surge protection in place, the home is far better protected against electric shock, fire and damage to appliances. The board is clearly labelled and fully certified, giving the owner confidence in the installation and the paperwork to prove it is safe and compliant.
